Acupuncture for Patients Undergoing Chemotherapy, Radiation

    and Other Cancer Treatments

This year we are very fortunate to have Mihal Davis, Acupuncturist and Naturopathic Physician join us to teach a four hour comprehensive class covering supportive acupuncture treatments for side effects of standard cancer therapies.   Mihal has extensive experience and training in oncology care. She has been in private practice for nearly 20 years, and has been treating patients at the UW Carbone Cancer Center since 2007.

To learn more about Mihal and her practice, you may view her CV here.

    Class Overview

Review of variety of chemotherapeutic agents (taxanes, platinums, etc.) and the cancers they are used to treat, along with common side effects and acupuncture treatment approaches to consider.

Review of radiation therapy, its common side effects and acupuncture treatment approaches to consider.

Demonstrations: 2-3 patient demonstrations using predominantly KMI (Kiiko Matsumoto Institute) style acupuncture technique.

    1. To recognize that we don't treat according to chemotherapeutic agent used but rather observe how the specific cancer therapy (chemo/radiation/other pharmaceutical intervention/surgery) interacts with the individuals constitution to present a unique picture.

    2. To identify how to treat chemo-induced neuropathies partly based on chemotherapeutic agent used.

    3. To treat radiation therapy-induced burns.

    4. To treat other cancer-treatment induced side effects: neutropenia, anemia, fatigue, GI disturbances, etc.

    5. To learn how to best offer post-surgical acupuncture support using acupuncture.
